Danial Van Calvert, 74, of Grand Junction, CO went home to be The Lord on Sunday, August 27th after a long fought battle with cancer.
Dan was born in Warren, AR to Rucker and Katherine Calvert. At the tender age of 6 they moved to West Monroe, LA where he attended school and college. This is also where he met his wife, Fran and started a family.
At the age of 16 after simply being asked to paint a piece of metal, his 48 year career in the carton folding and gluing industry was born. After working his way through many positions with Southern Tool Co. he moved his family to Grand Junction to start its sister company, Western Slope Industries. After an extraordinary career working with only one company he retired in 2013.
With a love of hunting and fishing and a passion for growing a plentiful garden, Colorado soon became his home. Dan was well known in the community for growing the most delicious “Redlands” produce.
Dans was a much beloved member of Monument Baptist Church for over 40 years where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Praise Team Member.
Dan and Fran celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on July 7th, 2023. They were surrounded by many family and friends, including their kids, Stephanie, Johnny, Mitzi and Sarah.
Dan is predeceased by his mother, father, sister (Anne Green) and grandson (Patrick Olearain). He is survived by his wife, Fran, children, Stephanie Calvert, Johnny Calvert (Tina), Mitzi Demont (Brian), Sarah Calvert. Grandkids, Kenny Olearain, Mikaylee Olearain, Jayden Olearain, Joah Calvert, KadeyAnne Calvert and Colt Calvert and great grandson Mason Carter.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to cancer research. A memorial service will be held on September 4, 2023 at 11am at Monument Baptist Church.
